Kate Middleton has been in remission from cancer since January. The Wales family has faced a really tough time, but details about how Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have coped with it all have not been shared until now. Prince William has revealed new information about what he and Kate told their children during their mother’s cancer treatment.
In March 2024, just weeks after King Charles disclosed his own cancer diagnosis, Kate Middleton announced that she was also fighting cancer. In an emotional video filmed in Windsor Gardens, she shared her news.
“I wanted to take this chance to personally thank you for all the amazing messages of support and for your understanding while I recover from surgery,” Kate expressed. “These past few months have been incredibly hard for our whole family, but I’ve had an excellent medical team that has taken wonderful care of me, and I am very grateful for that.”
The Princess of Wales added, “This was obviously a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to handle this privately for the sake of our young family.”

“As you can imagine, this has required time. It took me time to recover from major surgery before I could begin my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that they can understand, and to reassure them that I will be okay.”
“As I’ve told them, I am doing well and getting stronger every day by concentrating on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body, and spirit,” Kate shared. “Having William by my side is a tremendous source of comfort and reassurance, too. The love, support, and kindness shown by so many of you means a lot to both of us.”
Kate Middleton stepped back from public life to focus on her recovery. In the meantime, Prince William took on additional responsibilities, both as a member of the Royal Family and as a husband and father at home.
In January, the Princess of Wales and future queen announced the wonderful news that she is in remission from her cancer. The Wales family has largely kept a low profile since her initial diagnosis. What Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have been up to during this time has remained mostly unknown.
However, now Prince William has opened up about his children. While on Brazilian television during his trip to Brazil for his environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize, William shared how he and Kate dealt with “difficult questions” from their kids regarding their mum’s health.

William mentioned that George, Charlotte, and Louis had many inquiries about their mother’s condition. They concluded that being honest was the best approach.
“Every family goes through tough times and faces challenges together,” William stated, according to The Sun. “How you handle those moments makes all the difference. We chose to tell our children everything, both the good and the bad news. We explain to them why certain things happen and why they might feel upset.
“Many questions may arise without clear answers — I believe all parents experience that,” he added.
