Christopher North, Ambrosia’s original keyboardist, died at age 75.
The band announced his passing via a heartfelt Facebook statement, celebrating his remarkable life and contributions: “Ambrosia fans, we pay tribute to the iconic journey and artistry of our beloved brother Christopher North, the ‘Hammond B3 King’ whose innovative sounds shaped an era of progressive and soft rock,” it stated.
“A key founder from 1970 onward, he was a masterful keyboardist who infused every show with unparalleled passion and feeling.”
The message also highlighted his electrifying live energy: “We’ll forever cherish ‘Northwind’ for his blazing, high-octane stage charisma – a spark first spotted when he was found performing in a shadowy venue, his organ crowned by a wine bottle.”

Though the cause of death remains private, the group mentioned North had endured health struggles lately, including a valiant victory over throat cancer. Even so, “his passion stayed connected to the music and the audience he adored.”
North helped launch Ambrosia in 1970 with David Pack, Joe Puerta, and Burleigh Drummond. He departed briefly in 1977 but rejoined later, helping craft their distinctive style. The group earned fame with tracks like “Biggest Part of Me,” “How Much I Feel,” and “Holdin’ on to Yesterday.”
The band wrapped up by praising his lasting influence: “Christopher North’s music went beyond hits; it built immersive ‘aural worlds’ blending technical brilliance with heartfelt, airwave-ready melodies. We honor a genuine architect of classic rock, whose rich piano runs and epic organ riffs endure forever. One of a kind, deeply cherished by fans and bandmates alike.”
