Prom is a big deal for high school students. It’s a time that marks the end of one part of their lives and the beginning of another. It’s also a special night where teens can show off their awesome outfits and makeup, having a blast with friends they’ve made over the years.
Jon, a young man with autism, was getting ready for his prom. He didn’t have a date, and his parents were unsure if he really wanted to go. But then, a wonderful girl named Maddie came along and changed everything for Jon.
Maddie met Jon through a school club that helps kids with special needs make friends with other students. One day, she went to talk to Jon’s dad, who is a teacher at their school.
When she approached him, she said, “He’s a junior, so it’s his prom too. I really think he should get to go.” Jon’s dad was thrilled and felt honored that Maddie wanted to take Jon to the prom.

Jon’s dad shared a heartwarming story, saying, “Over the next few weeks, Maddie kept asking Jon what his favorite color was (which is orange) so she could find a dress in that color. She also made a reservation for their group, which included another couple, at a restaurant that served his favorite meal – chicken fingers and French fries.”
He encouraged his friends and followers on social media to spread this story for three important reasons: “to support special kids like Jon, to back groups that encourage these friendships, and to remind everyone that even when we hear about bad things happening, there are amazing kids like Maddie who are trying to make life better for others.”
It’s so great to see young people like Maddie who look past how someone appears on the outside.
Don’t forget to SHARE this uplifting story with your family and friends on Facebook to help Jon’s dad spread a message of love and hope.
