Figure skating is one of the most stunning and expressive sports in the Olympics. Even though it takes a lot of hard work to learn all the tricky moves in a routine, the skaters glide across the ice as if it’s super easy. The top figure skaters don’t just nail the jumps, spins, and cool tricks; they make it all look amazing.
They also discover how to really show the feelings behind the songs they sing. If you’re looking to meet someone who represents skating perfectly, you should meet Veronika Zhilina. Veronika is a Russian figure skater, and her stunning performance to Alexandra Burke’s version of Hallelujah has become super popular online.
This performance is one of the most heartfelt and moving things you will ever see, and it’s even more incredible because she was just ten years old at that time.
Veronika Vladislavovna Zhilina was born on May 15, 2008, in Arkhangelsk, Russia. She is already a talented skater, and she started at a really young age. Her mom, Ludmilla, began teaching her to skate when she was only three years old.
Veronika had a natural talent for skating, and even though she was just a little kid, she never felt lonely. Before long, her younger sister Alena joined her and their mom. Building a career in figure skating takes a lot of hard work, but both girls were excited to put in the effort because skating is what they love.
They lived in Arkhangelsk until 2018 before heading to Moscow to train with some of the best figure skating coaches in Russia: Sergei Dudakov, Sergei Rozanov, and Eteri Tutberidze. Just a year later, Veronika entered the junior category of the Russian Younger Age Championships and won! She proved it wasn’t just luck by defending her title successfully the following year.
Around this time, one of her coaches, Sergei Rozanov, moved to the Academy Angels of Plushenko, and Veronika along with Alena followed him. They teamed up with another talented skater, Alexandra Trusova. In the years that came, Veronika has either won or placed very well in competitions across Russia and might soon be ready to compete internationally.
If her performance to Hallelujah is any indication, she’s likely to score high, especially for artistic expression. When she steps onto the ice, she carries a light that she waves elegantly above her head. The audience joins in with their own lights, creating a special connection between the skater and the crowd.
Veronika sets her light down on the ice and begins her routine. It’s a breathtaking performance. She glides across the ice, almost as if she’s part of it. Her white dress beautifully matches her blonde hair, and her expression is angelic. Veronika’s skating is impeccable, with transitions so smooth it seems like she’s made of water instead of flesh and blood.
The choreography is spot on and perfectly captures the mood of the song. It’s a performance you definitely don’t want to miss. And if you’re curious about her little sister’s talent, be sure to check her out too. It looks like these two gifted young ladies have bright futures ahead of them.
