Trump or Biden? Astronaut Butch Wilmore reveals who truly saved him after 9 Months in Space

Barry “Butch” Wilmore, a NASA astronaut, recently shared how he managed to cope during a challenging nine-month mission on the International Space Station (ISS).

The 61-year-old Christian spoke openly about how he found peace and purpose in space, even when unexpected issues extended his time in orbit, during an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network.

On June 5, 2023, Wilmore and fellow astronaut Sunita Williams launched together aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

NASA decided to postpone Starliner’s return, which was originally set for June 13, 2023, because of technical problems. This change turned what was meant to be a short mission into several months of uncertainty.

Finally, much later than expected, the two astronauts returned to Earth, landing off the coast of Florida on a Tuesday at 5:57 p.m. ET.

Wilmore turned to his faith during the tough times he faced. He believed that his direction came from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he said, “Everything works out for those who believe.” He emphasized how this idea is important in our lives, as God is carrying out His plans and purposes for His glory among all people.

Wilmore is a committed member of Providence Baptist Church in Pasadena. Originally from Tennessee, he now lives in Texas with his wife, Deanna, and their daughters, Daryn and Logan.

Throughout the mission and even before it began, his faith stayed strong. He and Williams showed their trust in God by praying with the launchpad technicians right before the rocket took off.

Trust Rather Than Fear

Wilmore’s strong faith was evident in his family. After her father came back safely, Daryn shared with DailyMail.com, “We believe it was part of His plan, and the Lord has given us peace during this whole situation.”

Deanna added, “Even if we don’t completely grasp it, we trust that whatever the Lord does is for our benefit and His glory.”

The extended mission caught attention beyond NASA. Former President Donald Trump called on Elon Musk in January to help rescue the astronauts, claiming that then-President Joe Biden had “abandoned” them. In response, NASA quickly adjusted the timeline to ensure Wilmore and Williams returned safely.

“Whatever happens according to [God’s plan], I am at peace because I understand that,” Wilmore said after landing back on Earth, reflecting on what he learned. He emphasized that both joyful and tough moments have a purpose for believers, referencing Hebrews 11.
