Trump Claims ‘Loophole’ Could Let Him Run For A Third Term As He Says ‘A Lot Of People’ Want Him To

Donald Trump is back at it, suggesting he might run for a third term, even though that’s not really allowed.

He has mentioned this idea in the past, and now he’s talking about it again, even though it’s against the rules.

There’s a legal roadblock to a third term

Currently, Trump is serving his second term, and it should be his final one. The 22nd Amendment states that no president can hold office for more than two terms.

As explained by the National Constitution Center, the amendment says: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which someone else was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

Trump has been eyeing ways to bypass the law

Trump has been thinking about the possibility of staying in power for some time. He has even said that he has money ready for another campaign.

Initially, it seemed like he was just joking when he mentioned it. However, now he is starting to sound serious about finding ways to make it a reality.

He claims there’s growing public support for him to run again

During an interview with NBC News on March 30, Trump mentioned, “Many people are encouraging me to run again. However, I remind them that we still have a long journey ahead; it’s quite early in this administration.”

He also stated, “I’m concentrating on the present.”

Trump insists it’s too early but hints at ways around it

When directly asked if he is seriously thinking about a third term, the 78-year-old replied, “I enjoy working. I’m not kidding. But it’s definitely too soon to consider that.”

He then hinted at some possibilities, saying, “There are ways you could make it happen.”

Could JD Vance be a stepping stone?

One possible plan could be to have his Vice President, JD Vance, help him regain power. Vance might run for president, win the election, and then hand the presidency over to Trump.

Trump mentioned that this could be a possible way to go, but he didn’t reveal any other ideas he might have.

A new bill could pave the way for his third term.

This idea is backed by a recent proposal from US Representative Andy Ogles.

Ogles wants to change the 22nd Amendment so that Trump could stay in office until 2032.

The proposed amendment would state:

“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

This amendment would give Trump a chance to serve again while also stopping Barack Obama and Bill Clinton from coming back to the presidency.
