In the fall, a big discussion starts to get really intense and lasts until the end of the year. This debate usually focuses on whether to say ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays’ when greeting people.
Some stores think it’s not okay to say Merry Christmas because it might not be the most politically correct thing to do. While many people still celebrate Christmas, there are also those who decide not to.
There are a number of stores that continue to say Merry Christmas and ignore the political correctness associated with the term, Happy Holidays. The stores are recognized by the American Family Association (AFA) for their support of Christmas.
1. Hobby Lobby – This store is well known for its stand on religion. They will continue to play Christmas music, stay closed on Sundays, and say Merry Christmas to those who enter their store.
2. Belk – Just like Hobby Lobby, you can expect the store to continue to spread some Christmas cheer.
3. Nordstrom – This fancy department store really cares about all the holidays, like Thanksgiving and Christmas. They don’t put up any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving because they want their workers to have the chance to enjoy the holidays too.
4. Home Depot – This store also makes use of the term ‘Christmas’ making the AFA consider them to be Christmas friendly.
5. Walmart – This is one store that receives a five-star rating from AFA. They not only celebrate Christmas, they promote it.
6. Macy’s – This store is famous for leading the biggest Christmas parade in the country, and they proudly display the word Christmas on their storefront in New York City.
7. JCPenney’s – Although they’ve faced some challenges in the past, they still make sure to celebrate Christmas when the holiday season arrives.
8. Bass Pro Shops – These stores are really dedicated to the Duck Dynasty family and they also celebrate Christmas in a big way.
9. Lowe’s – Just like Home Depot, they make sure their employees really get into the Christmas spirit during the holiday season.
10. Toys “R” Us – You might be surprised to learn that Toys “R” Us competes with Hobby Lobby when it comes to using the word Christmas. They even have a special Christmas catalog filled with toys for kids.
