RuPaul’s Drag Race Star The Vivienne Passes Away at 32

The Vivienne, winner of the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, has tragically passed away at the age of 32.

Born James Lee Williams in Wales, the performer gained recognition under the drag name “The Vivienne,” inspired by a fondness for Vivienne Westwood fashion.

On January 5, publicist Simon Jomnes delivered the sorrowful announcement via Instagram: “It is with the deepest sadness that we confirm the passing of our beloved James Lee Williams – also known as The Vivienne – over the weekend.

“His family is devastated by the loss of their cherished son, brother, and uncle. They hold immense pride in all that James accomplished, both personally and professionally.

“We kindly ask that the family be given privacy and space as they navigate this painful time.”

Jomnes also shared his own heartfelt tribute: “These are words I never imagined writing. Viv wasn’t just a client; he was a dear friend and someone I cared for deeply.

“His sharp humor and comedic brilliance were truly one of a kind.”

Michelle Visage, a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, also paid tribute, expressing her grief: “I’m heartbroken. I can’t find the words to express this.

“My sweet @thevivienne_ — we’ve shared so many memories since I first began traveling to the UK. You were always there, always shining, always giving, and always flawless.

“Your humor, your intelligence, your extraordinary talent, your drag – I adored all of it. But above all, I cherished your friendship.

“You were an inspiration to so many. Watching you take the stage in your West End debut was a moment I’ll never forget – witnessing your dream unfold was a gift. I feel lucky to have known you and shared so much laughter with you.”

Rest in peace, Vivienne. You will be missed.
