New wildfires break out in San Diego prompting officials to issue urgent evacuation orders

San Diego experienced several wildfires on Tuesday, which caused schools to close, power to be shut off, and urgent evacuation orders to be issued.

At the same time, officials in Los Angeles are staying vigilant because of strong winds and dry weather.

Firefighters are working hard to control three different fires in Northern San Diego that are threatening people’s safety.

The biggest fire, called the Lilac Fire, has spread over 85 acres and has forced people to evacuate from Bonsall, a small town about 45 minutes away from San Diego.

According to reports, 86 people had to leave their homes, and two buildings were damaged by the fire. Firefighters have been working really hard and have managed to control about half of the Lilac Fire.

“Firefighters are making good progress on the fire. The fire activity has decreased significantly,” San Diego County Fire said in an update posted on X Tuesday morning.

There was also another fire called the Riverview Fire, which burned one acre of land before firefighters got it under control.

The Pala fire started about an hour after the Lilac Fire, around 2:30 a.m. local time, and it burned about 17 acres.

San Diego County District 5 Supervisor Jim Desmond posted on X that “Mandatory evacuation orders are now active, and it’s really important to evacuate right away and pay attention to first responders.”

He also mentioned that “The Santa Ana winds are making fire conditions very dangerous — if you’re in an evacuation zone, please don’t hesitate to leave.”

Emergency shelters have been set up for both people and animals, and the San Diego Humane Society has sent a team to help six horses that were stuck.

The Red Cross has gathered volunteers to assist at a temporary evacuation center in Escondido.
