Mom Loses It After Daughter Scolded For Wearing A Poppy

Sometimes, we might not agree with the choices our school makes. Usually, we keep those feelings to ourselves or talk about them at home, but there are moments when it’s important to let others know.

Recently, a mom from Farnham decided to share her daughter’s experience at school on TikTok. She didn’t mention the school’s name, but she described a really tough situation that resonated with a lot of people.

In case you are unaware, many people in Britain will wear poppies during the weeks leading up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. It’s an outward symbol to show your respect for those who died in Britain’s war.

A mother shared that her daughter got in trouble at school for wearing a poppy on her uniform. The school believed the pin could be unsafe.

In a video, she explained, “Yesterday was Remembrance Day, the 11th of the 11th. I received a message from my daughter saying, ‘I just got a detention for wearing the pin.’

“The pin is a poppy pin, and it’s not just any pin; it’s the official British Legion poppies that are sold everywhere.

“The school gave her a detention for wearing a poppy pin. Just think about that for a moment.”

She mentioned that she requested a meeting with the head teacher to talk about what happened.

“I’ve already talked to people from the British Legion, and they are prepared to take action. Former military members are also ready to step up.”

In a follow-up video on TikTok, the mother shared that the assistant head teacher had contacted her and confirmed that her daughter did not receive a detention.

She explained, “I told them, ‘Well, there was a detention; her name was on the board, and she had to stay after class, so she should have had a detention.’

“I’m not sure if someone tried to cover it up or not.”

The truth is, it was still mentioned. She wasn’t allowed to wear that pin, and that really frustrates me. It’s a poppy pin, meant for Remembrance.

“Then the assistant head started to question what kind of poppy she had on. Was it a big, flashy one? Was it a different color?

“She’s honoring the people who fought for our country, and she shouldn’t be getting in trouble for it.”
