A fan expressed their sorrow on Twitter, stating, “Devastating news. An iconic actress who will be profoundly missed.”
Another user highlighted her performance in Harry Potter, remarking, “I will always remember this as one of Maggie Smith’s most memorable scenes.”
Smith’s portrayal of Minerva McGonagall is widely regarded as iconic, with Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe acknowledging her influence in securing his role.
In 2011, he remarked, “She essentially got me the job at Potter. For those unfamiliar with the story, I owe a great deal to Maggie Smith. I had worked with her on David Copperfield, and when she joined Potter as McGonagall, she told the director that I should be auditioned.”
