The cruelty that some humans can inflict on dogs is quite frightening. Too frequently, these helpless creatures go through needless agony.
That was the situation with one dog, whose face was badly burned after a terrible attack. Fortunately, though, he has been making since. thanks to some generous veterinarians, a miraculous recovery.
According to a Tunica Humane Society report from April 2021, Buddy, a dog who was characterized as “happy and carefree” and “never a threat to anyone,” was set on fire. He was discovered with an extension cord around his neck and his face entirely blackened and burned.
A child eventually admitted to setting Buddy on fire, but he cannot be charged because he is under the age of twelve, according to WTVA.
Buddy was placed under the care of the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi, and the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine provided him with medical care. Buddy started a gradual but hopeful road to recovery while under their care.

“Buddy’s vital signs are good, but like any burn patient, this is just the beginning of a long journey,” associate professor and veterinary surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Swanson told WTVA.
“We are changing his bandages, keeping him comfortable, and handling any issues as they come up.”
Fortunately, Buddy does not appear to have lost his vision despite the startling accident. According to the Tunica Humane Society, medical professionals thought his eyes were still in good condition. His eyelid damage will be medically repaired, and after he recovers, he should be able to see some.
Buddy’s entire upper body was still covered in bandages. But he has maintained a positive attitude throughout it all.
“He keeps making progress every day,” the Humane Society posted on Facebook. “He never let his doctors down.” The outcome of his skin grafts has delighted everyone involved. Burn injuries take a very long time to heal, but Buddy is doing very well.
“His facial appearance much improved during his bandage change today. Buddy is learning some basic commands while he recovers.

They posted on Facebook, “This kind, amiable dog didn’t deserve what happened to him.” He posed no threat to anybody. It was incredibly cunning and ruthless.
“I hope Buddy’s terrible wounds weren’t in vain. that this tragedy will somehow lead to something positive. Justice will be done in situations like Buddy’s, and that change will occur.
Buddy has made great progress since his tale went viral a couple years ago, and Mississippi State veterinarians gave him the best care possible.
He needed fewer and fewer bandages as his wounds healed thanks to skin grafts. He gradually reverted to his former personality.
He is much happier and more lively now that the bandages have come off his ears. As his life gradually returns to normal, I have no doubt that he is ecstatic,” the Tunica Humane Society said last month.
Additionally, the rescue reported a “significant turning point” in Buddy’s recuperation on August 7.
Buddy was able to see for the first time in more than three months when his bandages, which had totally covered his eyes since the attack, were taken off without the need for strong sedatives.
According to the Humane Society, “his eyes were actually open and he was very aware.” “Yes, Buddy is still able to see in response to your countless prayers.”
In the last horrifying moments before a child set his face on fire, Buddy had his last true vision. This dog’s entire existence altered in an instant.
For this unfortunate pup, being able to see was a major step back to normalcy, and his caregivers report that his personality has started to shine once more.

The director of the Tunica Humane Society, Sandy Williams, told WREG that Buddy’s entire behavior has altered since he first saw daylight.
He is joyful and playful, and he is carrying a large ball in his mouth as he walks the hospital’s hallways. He adores balls. He keeps them on display for everyone to see.
Buddy is seen playing fetch in a video that the rescue posted:
Even while it’s a significant advancement, Buddy is still in danger. The Humane Society posted on Facebook that his eyelids will require some treatment to protect his eyes because he hasn’t totally recovered.
Additionally, he will require special care for the remainder of his life due to the severity of his injuries.
“He will need to wear sunscreen when he’s outside, his skin will be sensitive, and his eyes will likely need eye drops,” Williams said WREG. “He won’t grow up to be a dog that can spend hours in the sun.”
