Derek was really worried about his daughter, Amber, who had gone missing a week ago. Even though the police were trying hard to find her, it seemed like she had just disappeared. Derek couldn’t get any sleep and was filled with anxiety. At the police station, an officer told him, “We’ll let you know as soon as we have any news,” but there was still nothing new to report.
On his way home, Derek spotted a homeless woman holding Amber’s backpack. He went up to her and asked, “Where did you find that?” She answered, “I found it at the bus station; a teenage girl left it there.” When Derek looked inside the backpack, he discovered a folded note with an address that said “Hostess Family.” He quickly drove to that address.
When he got there, a woman at the door said that Amber had never shown up. Feeling hopeless, Derek decided to head back home. While driving, he saw his ex-wife, Miranda, sitting in a café. Thinking Amber might have gone to see her, Derek approached Miranda. At first, she claimed she didn’t know anything, but when Derek found Amber’s inhaler in her bag, she finally admitted the truth.
Amber heard them talking, ran outside, and Derek ran after her. He found her crying on a bench, and they made up. “I’m really sorry, Dad. I didn’t mean to make you worry,” Amber said. Derek hugged her tightly and said, “It’s alright. You just wanted to see your mom. But you’re grounded for two weeks,” he added with a smile, trying to make her feel better. Amber smiled back, feeling safe and loved once more.
