Child silently approaches mother’s coffin, presses head against it during service

Losing a parent is really tough, especially when you’re young. It can change how a child grows up and feels about life.

A picture from a funeral in the Philippines has become super popular online, and it’s for the saddest reason imaginable.

A young boy lost his mother, and during her funeral, he climbed onto her coffin for one last goodbye. He rested his head on it, wanting to feel close to her one more time. Everyone who saw this was deeply moved by the raw emotion from such a little kid.

Then, he looked around at the people and asked, “Why doesn’t Mommy sleep next to me anymore?” Those words hit everyone hard. It’s so difficult to find the right words to explain to a child that their mom is gone forever.

The simplicity of that question showed how confused and hurt he really was.

It is in situations like these that the harsh reality of death becomes even more heartbreaking.
