Bridgerton adds Harry Potter actress Katie Leung to season 4, teases Sophie and Benedict romance

She previously starred as Cho Chang, the titular wizard’s love interest.

Bridgerton has discovered the ideal witch to play a part in a magical story.

Katie Leung, known for her role as Cho Chang, the Ravenclaw witch in the famous Harry Potter movies, is set to join the fourth season of the Regency romance series. The new season of Bridgerton will focus on the romance between Benedict (played by Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (played by Yerin Ha), and now Leung will be playing the character of Lady Araminta Gun, who will be the new villain in the story.

According to her character details, Araminta is a woman who has been married and lost her husbands two times. She has two daughters who are about to make their debut in the marriage scene this season. Araminta is described as fabulous, sharp-minded, and straightforward. She doesn’t take it lightly when anything or anyone puts her social status at risk.

Sadly for Sophie, the widow is focused on Benedict because she wants to find a husband for at least one of her daughters.

Leung is joined by two other newcomers: Michelle Mao, known for her roles in Sweet Home and Goosebumps, and Isabella Wei, who has appeared in The Crow and 1899. They will play Araminta’s daughters, Rosamund and Posy.

Rosamund, the oldest daughter, is really into herself and always wants to make others happy. She’s got her eyes set on winning over a particular Bridgerton brother who has a free-spirited vibe. Just like her crafty mom, Rosamund is super determined to get what she desires.

Meanwhile, Posy is the kinder, chattier sister with a bad habit of putting her foot in her mouth.

Based on Julia Quinn’s third novel, An Offer from a Gentleman, the fourth season, which is inspired by Cinderella, will focus on Benedict. He encounters and falls for a mysterious woman wearing a mask at his mom’s masquerade ball. In an interview with Tudum, Thompson hinted at the exciting fairy tale romance that is coming up.

Thompson pointed out that season 4 is really interesting because it shows the clash between a classic fairy tale with all its romance and the real world we live in. “Both sides are real,” he said. “You need to balance the fairy tale feelings and the harsh truths together. The best kind of ‘true love’ is found right in between those two.”

He went on to say, “The scripts created by Jess Bromwell and her team are amazing. They’re super exciting! The plot has a unique spin on Cinderella. You know how we all loved those stories when we were kids, with all the magic and romance? It’s thrilling to see that mixed into the Bridgerton universe. It’s a fantastic story, and I really hope it feels relatable too.”

As for Ha, she is already feeling a profound connection to her character. “What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome,” Ha said. “Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.”

This season will give us more chances to see two characters that fans of Bridgerton are already familiar with: Alice Mondrich, played by Emma Naomi, and Brimsley, who is Queen Charlotte’s devoted friend, portrayed by Hugh Sachs.

The latest updates come after the huge success of Bridgerton’s third season, which focused on the romance between Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan). In this season, Penelope finally shares her long-time crush and her secret identity as Lady Whistledown. This season, featuring Newton and Coughlan, quickly became the most popular debut in the series’ history, racking up an amazing 45.1 million views during its opening weekend.
