Beandri Booysen’s life showed how strong and loving a person can be, even in tough times. She dealt with a rare and sad illness, but her happiness spread to many people around her. Sadly, her journey ended just a few days before Christmas.
At only 19 years old, Beandri has left us, but her inspiring story will live on in the hearts of those who learn about her.
Born in South Africa, Beandri was only seven months old when she was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, an incredibly rare genetic condition that causes the body to age eight times faster than normal.
The chances of being born with progeria are really low, about 1 in 4 million. Right now, there are less than 400 kids and young adults around the world who have this condition. Doctors thought Beandri wouldn’t make it past her early teenage years. But Beandri had different ideas about her future.
A life lived to the fullest
Beandri was determined not to let her condition control her life from the time she learned to talk. Even though she only weighed 12 kilograms (26 pounds) and faced many challenges because of her illness, her spirit was incredibly strong.
She went to school, wanted to be a teacher, and dreamed of getting married and having twins one day. Beandri was set on living her life just like any other teenager, making the most of every single moment.
Beandri discovered her true self on social media. She created a TikTok account where she shared inspiring videos and honest moments from her life, and before long, she had almost 300,000 followers.
Her saying, “Be yourself. Love yourself. Believe in yourself,” connected with people everywhere. With her posts, she not only talked about her own journey but also taught others about progeria, helping to raise awareness and kindness.
A mother’s heartbreak
Just a few weeks after turning 19, Booysen experienced a serious health emergency.
“Please pray. Beandri’s heart has stopped,” her mom, Bea, posted on Wednesday. “They are working to make her heart start beating again. Please pray.”
On December 18, Beandri’s mom announced that her daughter had passed away.
Her message was filled with both sadness and pride, describing Beandri as a “lively person” and the “last person in South Africa with progeria.”
“She was a voice and a symbol for awareness about Progeria and other special needs,” Bea wrote. “She never gave up.”
As news of her death spread, tributes began pouring in on TikTok.
“Rest In Peace, my sweet friend. I will miss you so much,” someone shared.
Many others expressed their heartbreak, offering heartfelt condolences to Beandri’s family and loved ones.
Her lasting, final message
Beandri’s time with us was way too short, but she made the most of it by showing us what really matters in life. She inspired us to live our lives to the fullest, love with all our hearts, and find joy in the little things every day. Her joyful laughter, her positive spirit, and her commitment to helping others will always be remembered.
Even though her family has requested some space during this tough time, one thing is clear: Beandri’s bright spirit will keep shining through all the people she influenced.
As we remember her story, let’s use it as a reminder to cherish our moments and to live with the same courage and happiness that Beandri showed us every day.
