A young graduate tragically passes away after consuming a peanut snack.

A family in Massachusetts is mourning a heartbreaking loss after 22-year-old Timothy Howard died due to a serious allergic reaction to peanuts, just days following his college graduation celebration.

Timothy, who recently graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Communication Studies, experienced a fatal anaphylactic reaction on May 24. His parents, Tim and Patty Howard, mentioned that the reaction occurred suddenly in the middle of the night.

“He came in and woke us up, saying he couldn’t breathe,” his father recounted in a touching interview with NBC affiliate TurnTo10. “Things escalated very quickly from that moment.”

Even though they quickly used his EpiPen and called 911, Timothy’s parents couldn’t save him. The allergen had already caused a severe crisis.

Patty later posted the heartbreaking news on Facebook: “With heavy hearts, we announce the loss of our son Timmy due to a severe anaphylactic reaction to peanuts. We just celebrated his college graduation, and he had his entire future ahead of him. Our hearts are shattered, and we have now become part of a club that no one wishes to join.”

She encouraged others to “hold your children a little closer today, don’t worry about the little things, and spread kindness in this world.”

Following his tragic death, Timothy’s fraternity brothers started a fundraiser in his honor to support Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). The Give A Hand campaign is designed to raise awareness about dangerous food allergies and assist in funding research for anaphylaxis treatment.

The fundraiser has already exceeded its $25,000 target, with over $27,000 raised at the time of this writing.

A tribute on the page, penned by Timothy’s friend Kourosh Emami, describes a young man who was deeply cherished by everyone who knew him: “Timmy was just starting what seemed to be an incredible journey. He was ambitious, kind, and truly loved… He made people feel secure and acknowledged… He never complained, even when times were tough. His quiet positivity was strong, and his heart was as real as they come.”

It went on: “He really was one of the good ones; gentle, considerate, and full of love for others. His sudden passing has created a significant void, but we are dedicated to honoring his memory in a way that brings purpose and change.”

At only 22, Timothy had already made a significant impact on those around him. Now, through the efforts of his family and friends, his legacy will live on, promoting kindness, awareness, and hope in his name.
