Mia and Mark wanted a child so badly that it took over their hearts, pushing them to do everything they could to make it happen.
After trying many times to have a baby and spending a lot of money on treatments and IVF, they realized they wouldn’t be able to have a kid on their own.
In the end, they decided to adopt. But it wasn’t as easy as it looked.
Since Mark was super busy running his company, Mia had to handle the whole adoption process. She had to contact agencies, fill out forms, and look through lists of kids who needed a loving family.
While going through the documents, she spotted a little boy, maybe three years old.
They decided to bring a toddler into their lives after initially wanting to adopt a baby but realizing the chances were slim.
The little boy Mia couldn’t stop staring at had the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen; they were as blue as the sky. After seeing his picture, she felt like she had known that sweet little guy forever.
Once everything was settled, they finally brought Sam home.
There was no boy cuter than him. Most importantly, during the first few weeks of living with Mia and Mark, he got along great and even started calling her “mom.”
Everything seemed perfect. Mia felt like the happiest person in the world when her biggest dream—becoming a mother—came true. She was thankful that things turned out well for her and her husband, and life felt wonderful.
But one night that started like any other changed everything.
As Sam got ready for his bath, Mark said he wanted to help give the child a bath. Mia thought that spending some time alone would make the father and son closer, and she was happy that Mark was taking on this new responsibility.
But then Mark exclaimed, “We have to give him back!” while helping Sam take off his clothes and get into the tub.
Mia froze. “What’s going on?” she wondered.
“How can we return a child, Mark?” she asked him.
Mark seemed firm. He said he couldn’t handle this new life and that everything was just too overwhelming.
Mia felt heartbroken. She was taken aback by her husband’s words. His sudden change in feelings was unusual. Still, she understood that there was more to the story than what he was saying.
It was a really long night. Mia found it hard to fall asleep. But then she got an idea. Both Mark and Sam had birthmarks on the bottoms of their feet. She went to Sam’s room to take a closer look at the birthmark. At that moment, she noticed that his birthmark was almost the same as Mark’s.
In the morning, she asked Mark if there was anything he needed to confess. Heartbroken, he admitted that he thought Sam was his biological son and wanted to give him back. He got really worried when he saw the birthmark.
It turned out that Mark had an affair with a woman he met at a bar. Mia was crushed to find out that he had cheated on her when she was at her most vulnerable and that she had to go through painful IVF treatments, even though he insisted it was just a one-time thing.
Mark really felt guilty about cheating on his wife, but Mia just couldn’t overlook that he had been unfaithful. She couldn’t stay with Mark anymore. Mia became the only guardian of Sam when Mark gave her the rights to be a parent.
Even though they only saw each other sometimes and Mark sent birthday gifts through the mail, he didn’t completely disappear from his son’s life.
When Mia realized that Mark was ready to abandon his child just to hide his affair, she knew she had made the best decision for herself and Sam.
