Jimmy Carter made a seldom-seen public appearance this past week, attending the memorial service for his beloved and longtime wife, Rosalynn Carter. Clad in a somber dark suit and tie, the former president’s presence was a poignant testament to their enduring bond.
Having entered hospice care in February after declining further medical interventions, Carter remained steadfastly by Rosalynn’s side through her final moments, offering quiet support until her passing.
Witnesses at the ceremony, held at Atlanta’s Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, saw Carter seated in his wheelchair, surrounded closely by his children as the tribute unfolded.
Before the memorial, Jason Carter—grandson of Jimmy and Rosalynn—shared an update on his grandfather’s health, candidly acknowledging that the 39th President’s time might be drawing to a close.
The Carters’ story is one deeply entwined, their lives interlaced since childhood in the small town of Plains, Georgia. It seemed only natural that they would be together in those last hours on Saturday, November 19.
Rosalynn Carter’s passing, while not unexpected at the age of 96, has elicited heartfelt reflections from thousands who admired her legacy.
According to sources, she died peacefully at her home in Plains at 2:10 p.m. on November 19. Beyond her role as First Lady from 1977 to 1981, Rosalynn devoted decades to humanitarian endeavors through the Carter Center, leaving an indelible mark on global humanitarianism.

Regrettably, both Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter experienced a decline in health throughout the past year. Jimmy Carter entered hospice care back in February after electing to forego further medical treatments for several health complications.
With Rosalynn’s passing, many believe that Jimmy’s condition may deteriorate sharply.
This somber prospect seemed to be affirmed by his grandson, Jason Carter, who spoke candidly to the New York Post ahead of Rosalynn’s memorial service.

“He’s nearing the end, and his physical strength has diminished profoundly,” Jason Carter shared.
“He has been a steadfast moral anchor for countless individuals, yet it was truly she who was the foundation for him.”
At the heartfelt memorial for Rosalynn, their daughter Amy Carter read aloud a poignant letter Jimmy had penned to Rosalynn during his time serving in the Navy, a tender reminder of their enduring bond.

“My dearest, whenever I’ve been apart from you, returning has always filled me with joy as I rediscover the remarkable person you are,” he wrote. “Each time I see you, I find myself falling in love anew.”
Rest peacefully, Rosalynn Carter. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Carter family during this poignant time.
