American Idol judge Carrie Underwood recently revisited a memorable moment from her past by wearing the same dress she donned during the show’s finale two decades ago.
On April 28, American Idol honored “iconic Idol moments” with special performances from the Top 12 contestants, who sang songs previously featured on the show. For instance, Slater Nalley performed John Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery,” a song Megan Danielle had sung in Season 21. Country favorite John Foster also paid tribute by singing “I Told You So,” a duet Randy Travis once performed with Underwood on the show.
The night before, on April 27, Underwood herself revived a classic Idol performance by singing Heart’s “Alone,” a song she famously performed during her 2005 season.
As many know, Underwood won her season of American Idol and has since become one of its most successful alumni. This season, she has come full circle by returning as a judge.
Season 23 has featured several nostalgic moments recalling Underwood’s journey as a contestant, but one of the most striking was her choice to wear her original finale dress during the “iconic moments” episode.

Underwood stunned fans by slipping back into the very same bedazzled leopard print dress she wore when crowned the winner of Season 4 in 2005. She shared a playful video on social media showcasing the dress, captioning it, “Same dress, different view.”
Longtime fans were thrilled to see her in this iconic outfit again, expressing excitement and nostalgia in the comments. Remarks included memories of voting for her, appreciation for the throwbacks, and admiration for her ability to still fit into the dress after 20 years.
This heartfelt reunion with her past attire highlighted Underwood’s enduring connection to American Idol and delighted viewers with a genuine full-circle moment.
