Sure, the Chrysler 300 “letter series” is super cool, but it’s also super rare and expensive. Lucky for us, there are other cars from the 1950s that are just as charming and won’t break the bank.
Dodge Coronet and Plymouth Belvedere
Not as flashy as the 300, but they’ve got that cool “Forward Look” style. And if you want something a bit different, check out the DeSoto Fireflite.
Chrysler New Yorker
If you love the front of the 300, you’ll dig the New Yorker. It’s got a similar look, but with a less powerful engine and more body style options.
Imperial
This one’s like the fancy cousin of the 300 “letter series.” It’s got the same cool design but with extra luxury features. You can even find super long limo-style versions!
Bringing Back the Classics
Why talk about cars from the 1950s? Well, in my opinion, Chrysler made the coolest cars back then. I’m especially into DeSotos and Imperials, and it’s kind of sad to see them sitting in junkyards.
But wait, there’s good news! Recently, the “Days of Cars” YouTube channel fixed up a 1955 Imperial four-door sedan. This car was abandoned for ages, missing important parts, but the new owner gave it a makeover.
They not only cleaned it up but also got the old HEMI V8 engine roaring again.
The Heart of the Matter: The FirePower HEMI V8
Now, this Imperial might not have the famous 426-cubic-inch powerhouse, but its 331-cubic-inch FirePower HEMI V8 is still a gem.
This HEMI engine was introduced in 1951 and made its way into various Chrysler models. The one in the Imperial produces 250 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque pretty impressive for its time!
