LAPD has arrested a man in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, for allegedly starting a fire linked to the Kenneth Fire, which is now moving closer to Hidden Hills and Calabasas.
Officials say that the fire has been spreading rapidly because of strong winds and was intentionally set.
In an interview with NewsNation, Charles Dinsel, a senior officer with the LAPD, mentioned, “What we know at this point is that the fire started here, and about 20 to 30 minutes later, citizens helped detain a suspect in the Woodland Hills area.”
The Kenneth Fire has burned more than 950 acres.
According to Fox News, the arrest took place at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, close to Arcos Drive and Galendo Street. People living nearby saw a man on a bike with a torch, attempting to set old Christmas trees and trash cans on fire. Fortunately, they were able to stop him and even used zip ties to hold him down.
They kept the man there until the police showed up.
The authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s name, and they are looking into whether he might have started any other fires too.
At first, the LAPD said, “We can’t say for sure right now where or how the fires began, but we are looking into it.”
Famous people like Henry Winkler, Chris Brown, and Elizabeth Chambers suggested that the fires might have been started on purpose, which prompted this reply.
The wildfires in LA have sadly claimed 10 lives and caused injuries to many others. Despite the hard work of firefighters, the fires are still not under control.
Wildfires have already caused damage to over 10,000 buildings, including some famous landmarks.
LA Mayor Karen Bass mentioned, “We think this fire will spread quickly because of the strong winds.”
Officials think that the Kenneth Fire, which is the newest in a series of fires affecting parts of LA, started in the San Fernando Valley, which is next to Ventura County and the West Hills area in northwest Los Angeles.
The Kenneth Fire is currently burning to the north of the Palisades Fire.
According to Cal Fire, the Lidia Fire, which is the fire furthest north, is now 75% contained and is no longer considered a California Fire incident.
Right now, the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire are still the biggest fires and pose a serious danger.
