The part-time host is really on a roll after winning his 23rd Emmy on Sunday night for the best talk series with “The Daily Show.” This is his first win in almost ten years since he left the show. So, could this mean he might stick around longer after the election season ends? He said it’s a possibility…
Earlier this year, Stewart returned to the show that launched his career, taking on a part-time hosting role on Mondays to help guide it through the presidential election. When Variety reporters asked the comedian on Emmys night if he might stick around longer, his response was vague, which got a lot of people excited.
I really think this election is going to drag on forever. So why should I even think about leaving? I can’t go anywhere until it’s over, and it feels like we’ll all just be worn down to nothing by the end. Honestly, I’m just bracing myself for it to be terrible.
The comedian was originally just meant to help out behind the scenes when he came back to the show during the election. However, it seems like he might stick around until 2025. His response could mean that the people in charge at Comedy Central and Paramount Global are happy with having a mix of hosts for “The Daily Show” and might want to keep it that way for now, according to Variety’s report.
Under Stewart’s leadership, “The Daily Show” has won another Emmy, just a year after it took home an award for Trevor Noah’s last season. This is the first Emmy win since Stewart left the show in 2015. Winning back-to-back after almost 20 years of success might mean that the show is becoming popular again.
Since Stewart came back, he has been getting steady ratings, and he just hit the highest ratings of the year with a recent live episode after the presidential debate, according to The Wrap.
Stewart has been joined by his co-hosts Dulcé Sloan, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, and Jordan Klepper, who have all played a big role in guiding “The Daily Show” over the past few years.
During the show’s acceptance speech, Stewart said winning “made an old man very happy.”
He kept expressing his gratitude to his co-hosts after they won the Emmys, saying, “Getting to work with this amazing team every week has truly made my Mondays special.”
“The Daily Show” airs Monday through Thursday at 11 p.m. ET on Comedy Central and streams on Paramount+.
