Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t come to the US by themselves; they brought their son, Prince Archie, along when they took what people call the “freedom flight” to Canada. In 2021, after settling into their fancy mansion in Montecito, California, they welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet.
Even though Archie and Lilibet are still quite young, they have already become popular topics in the news. Lilibet just turned three, but sadly, no one from the Royal Family could make it to her birthday party. People are curious about how Archie and Lilibet will connect with their cousins in the UK—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—in the future. There are rumors that King Charles really wants to be more involved in the lives of Harry and Meghan’s kids.
Archie is getting ready to start kindergarten this fall, and Lilibet is preparing for preschool. Harry and Meghan are reportedly looking at schools for their children, but one journalist in the US criticized them, calling them “frauds.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to move to the United States so they could have a quieter life, away from the constant attention of the paparazzi and the demands of royal life. Reports say that just a few days after their wedding, they realized they didn’t want to be part of the royal family for a long time.
When their son Archie was born in 2019, Harry and Meghan were already trying to live more privately, wanting to escape from being treated like “puppets” by the royal family for the public and the media.
Harry & Meghan ‘tricked” reports when Archie was born
In her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, royal expert Katie Nicholl mentioned that Harry was “almost morbidly obsessed” with keeping Archie’s birth a secret, which is pretty unusual for royal babies.
While millions of fans and most of the public were eager to learn about the new baby, Harry and Meghan’s wish for privacy was overlooked. It was seen as part of the “unwritten contract between the royals and the public.”
Rebecca English, the royal editor for the Daily Mail, shared that things were so tense behind the scenes that some officials ended up in tears from frustration and sadness.
Typically, when a royal baby arrives, the parents step out of the hospital with their newborn to take pictures with the media. After a few photos, they usually answer some questions before heading back to their private life.
Katie Nicholl explained that Harry and Meghan wanted to do things differently for Archie’s birth. Instead of facing the media directly, they played tricks on reporters and photographers.
Prince William, Prince Harry, and William’s kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, were all born at St Mary’s Hospital, which is why their first baby pictures were taken there. On the other hand, since Meghan’s doctor was at Portland Hospital, it was a good choice for her to have Archie there.

An added bonus for the Sussexes was that the place would make photos impossible due to safety considerations around the entrance.
“Harry had always enjoyed outfoxing the media,” Nicholl wrote in The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown.
He and Meghan were super excited to welcome their son at the private Portland hospital in London, even before the palace press office had announced that the duchess was in labor.
Lilibet’s arrival was a bit different. She was born in California in June 2021, and there were no paparazzi around to bother them. However, it didn’t take long for Harry and Meghan to bring their kids back into the public eye.
Two years after Lilibet was born, the Sussexes shared that they had given their children the titles of prince and princess. While Harry and Meghan believe these titles are their kids’ birthright, not everyone thinks this was the right choice.
Royal expert and author Angela Levin pointed out that this decision could have some negative effects on Archie and Lilibet’s futures.

Levin wrote an article for Sky where he mentioned that Lilibet has a heavy weight to carry because of her parents’ choices.
He said, “It will take a long time for little Lilibet to understand just how much her parents have put on her young shoulders.”
She mentioned that by giving their daughter a royal title, Harry and Meghan have now tied her to the British Royal Family, which they have often criticized.
“Why would you want your daughter to go through such pain?” Levin questioned, pointing out that Lilibet’s life will be tougher now that she has the title of princess.
King Charles ‘desperate’ to meet Archie & Lilibet
Little girls really enjoy being princesses at parties, but if Lilibet is the only real princess in her class, it might cause some jealousy that could be avoided, according to a royal expert.
Archie and Lilibet are growing up quickly. Archie just turned 5 in May, and Lilibet celebrated her 3rd birthday a little over a week ago. On June 5, Lilibet had a birthday party, but none of her royal family members were there. It seems that Princess Eugenie is the only royal who has visited Harry, Meghan, and their kids in California.
Interestingly, even though King Charles has a strained relationship with Harry and Meghan, he feels “heartbroken” about not having a close bond with Archie and Lilibet.
For context, the King has only met Archie five times and Lilibet just once.
In an interview with the Mirror, royal expert Ingrid Seward, who wrote My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen, mentioned that King Charles’ cancer diagnosis has made his relationship with Archie and Lilibet feel even more important, as he understands he “won’t be around forever.”
“Family has always meant a lot to the King. He remembers his own childhood, which was a bit broken because his parents were often busy with their duties. It makes him sad that he doesn’t get to see Archie and Lilibet more often,” Seward explained.
He will always stay connected to Harry because he doesn’t want just a FaceTime relationship with his grandkids. He really wants to be part of their lives and help them learn while they’re still young. Since he has cancer, it feels even more important to him because he realizes he won’t be here forever.
Meghan revealed real reason why Archie will never attend a UK school
It’s hard to predict what Harry and Meghan’s kids will choose to do when they grow up. They have the freedom to pursue any career they want, even if that includes being working royals. However, their parents probably envision a future where they attend some of the most prestigious and expensive schools around the globe.
Their family in the UK has gone to well-known schools like Gordonstoun in Scotland and Eton in England. But it seems that Harry and Meghan wouldn’t allow their son to go to school in the UK.
In a 2022 article in The Cut, journalist Allison Davis shared a chat she had with Meghan Markle. Meghan expressed her concerns about sending her son Archie to school in the UK because of safety issues.
Davis wrote, “During our talk about her dreams for their life here, she mentioned that if Archie went to school in the UK, she wouldn’t be able to do school drop-offs and pick-ups without it turning into a royal photo opportunity with tons of photographers.”
Meghan told Allison, “I have a problem with that. It doesn’t mean I’m obsessed with privacy; it means I’m a caring parent trying to protect my child.”
There’s still plenty of time until Archie and Lilibet begin their studies, which include at least high school or college. Until then, they will likely attend a school nearby the fashionable Montecito, California, where they live.
Harry and Meghan “inspecting” expensive private school for Archie & Lilibet
A journalist has mentioned that Harry and Meghan are starting to check out schools nearby. As a result, they are getting a lot of criticism for their choices.
According to Rochard Mineards from the Montecito Journal, the couple has been looking at a local private school, which is quite expensive.
Mineards shared, “The couple was seen touring the campus of a school last week, getting closer to making a decision.”
He also noted, “Tuition fees in this area range from $50,000 to $60,000 for the older grades, and most students from these schools go on to four-year colleges.”

Harry and Meghan likely have enough money to send their kids to private schools. Still, some people are not happy about Harry considering such a pricey school.
Journalist Lee Cohen, who works in the US, has criticized the royal couple, calling them “frauds.” In a chat with GB News, he expressed his frustration, saying it’s “infuriating” that the Sussexes want to enroll their kids in a school that costs so much, especially since they care about equality.
“It’s utterly infuriating to hear that Harry and Meghan, the self-proclaimed champions of equality and social justice, are even contemplating enrolling their children in an exclusive, outrageously expensive school,” Cohen said.
Harry & Meghan branded “frauds”
He said, “Their so-called dedication to helping progressive causes is just a cover-up. If they can support this level of elitism, then they really aren’t fighting for equality. They’re spending crazy amounts of money, like tens of thousands of dollars each year, on their kids’ education. How can they explain that when so many families can barely afford the basics?”
Cohen wrapped up his thoughts by saying that the couple is keeping their “systems of privilege” alive, even though they pretend to be against it.
“By sending their kids to such an elite school, Harry and Meghan are showing everyone who they really are. They’re just keeping the same systems of privilege they claim to be against,” Cohen told GB News.
