1955 Oldsmobile Super 88, Parked for 40 Years, Ready for a Restoration Journey

Oldsmobile’s famous 88, introduced in 1949 and made until 1999, is like a superhero in the car world. It was super popular from 1950 to 1974 because it was not only super fancy but also really fast. But guess what? It has a secret racing history that’s just as cool!

Racing Beginnings

The 88’s racing story started when it became the smaller, lighter version of another Oldsmobile called the 98. It had this super cool engine called the Rocket V8, and it even won the NASCAR championship in 1949 and 1950. Even though the Hudson Hornet tried to compete in 1951, the 88 kept on racing.

The J-2 Adventure

In the 1950s, Oldsmobile introduced the J-2, a powerful engine with three carburetors. It was made for NASCAR, but NASCAR changed the rules in 1957. No worries, though – the 88 became a favorite for drag racers in the 1950s and 1960s.

Meet the Drag Racing Star

Let’s shine a light on a cool 1955 Super 88. It’s like a superhero that used to race in the 1960s and 1970s at Connecticut Dragway. This car, a four-door sedan, won at least 31 races a big deal for a family car!

The Bumpy Road

Sadly, the Super 88 retired in 1983. It sat around for years, looking pretty beat up. Rust took over, the inside got rough, and the engine napped, waiting for a makeover.

Still a Champ

Even though it’s seen better days, the Super 88 has hope. The engine still turns, and it has some cool old-school upgrades. The best part? It can give us a peek into its awesome past.

Time for a Makeover

Someone bought the Super 88 to fix it up, but they’re too busy. Now, it’s up for grabs along with another 1955 Olds 88 in better shape. You can either make both cars look brand new or use one to tow the other.

Fixer-Upper Deal

This project is a steal at $5,995 for both cars. If you’re into cars or love fixing things, this is your chance. These cars are in Wallingford, Connecticut, waiting for someone to bring back the racing spirit of the Oldsmobile 88.
