Introduction to a Post-War Icon

After World War II, Alfa Romeo resumed car production in 1946, with the reintroduction of the 6C 2500 model, originally launched in 1939. This model played a crucial role in the company’s post-war revival, embodying resilience and craftsmanship.

Design and Variants

The 6C 2500 featured designs influenced by Touring and offered various iterations, including the Freccia d’Oro sports saloon, coupes, and cabriolets by Pinin Farina, Touring, and Ghia. The model also included a six/seven-seater berlina.

Engineering Excellence

The 6C 2500 maintained Alfa’s reputation for excellent driver’s cars. It featured all-independent suspension, ample brakes, responsive steering, and a smooth gearshift. The engine was a 2,443cc, double-overhead-camshaft ‘six’, with power outputs ranging from 90bhp to 105bhp, depending on the variant.

Performance and Production

The Super Sport (SS) version, lighter and more powerful, could exceed 100mph. Between 1946 and 1951, Alfa Romeo produced 383 SS chassis, with most being Superleggera coupés by Touring and a few cabriolets by Pinin Farina.
